Welcome to this edition of the eNews. Maintaining impartiality, we offer congratulations to the Fijian 7s Rugby team and all their supporters in winning the Olympic Gold medal in Tokyo Olympics. It is an inspiring story of winning against the odds that may resonate with many human rights defenders! In this issue we have news of DTP programs and of DTP alumni and updates on the human rights crisis in post-coup Myanmar.

DTP PROGRAMS

CHILDREN'S RIGHTS The recording of yesterday's webinar "Climate change, the rights of children and the duty of care" with Dr Noam Peleg and Anjali Sharma, is available to watch. WATCH HERE The follow up webinar with Ms Mikiko Otani, Chair, Committee on the Rights of the Child will be held on Tuesday 24 August 4pm AEST and will also have a focus on climate change. More information to follow.

BUSINESS, HUMAN RIGHTS AND THE SDGs AND CLIMATE EMERGENCY IN THE PACIFIC: 50 participants will be taking part in our 2nd online BHR Pacific program starting next week. DTP and OHCHR sign MoU to build collaboration on human rights in Pacific.

Human rights defenders and West Papuan student activists Roland Levy and Kelvin Molama were convicted in a Jakarta court and sentenced to 5 months imprisonment in a trial seen as political and unfair. Roland is a DTP alumnus and peaceful advocate for the human rights of the people in West Papua.
