DTP - BUILDING THE CAPACITY OF ASIA-PACIFIC HUMAN RIGHTS MOVEMENTS 1990 - 2022

Welcome to this issue of DTP’s eNews, where we include a profile of DTP Board member and trainer Associate Professor Philip Chung, and of Malaysian DTP alumna Erlinda Joseph, an Indigenous woman whose advocacy work now focuses on migrant domestic works in Asia. DTP TRAINER PROFILE: PHILIP CHUNG

Philip Chung is a DTP Board member and highly valued DTP trainer. He is the Executive Director of the Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII), and an Associate Professor of Law at the University of New South Wales. He has been a DTP trainer for over two decades.

"We don't even know yet about the implications that are coming. So the more grassroots organisations that are aware and prepared on human rights the better. They can then spot human rights issues that need attention. Peoples' diplomacy – the core of DTP will become more useful in the coming context."

DTP ALUMNI PROFILE: ERLINDA JOSEPH

Erlinda (Lindu) belongs to the Kadazan-Dusun Indigenous community in Sabah, Malaysia. She works with the International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) and is developing and facilitating IDWF’s first online course with a critical focus on educating domestic workers in Asia about tackling gender-based violence.

"The DTP training is beneficial because of the networking opportunity… I met new people and regional human rights advocates and remained connected."

INDIA

DTP would like to congratulate Mirza Jahanzeb Beg on his scholarship supporting his PhD on the concept of resilience in conflict zones.

Mizra said, "I want to thank the DTP Training Program and colleagues who inspired me in the field of Human Rights and the same inspiration motivated my dissertation work in the field of Psychological Resilience at Masters level and now at doctoral level."
