Li Fang Wong

Coordinator, SAVE Rivers Network
Malaysia
Li is the Coordinator of the River’s Program at Save Rivers Network which focuses on advocacy in Malaysia. Li works closely with Indigenous communities affected by mega dam projects in Sarawak in opposing these projects and upholding Indigenous people’s rights – particularly over land. Li has been networking with other communities and organisations in Malaysia to form a national coalition against mega dam projects. Additionally, he is involved in mediation with villages around the construction on micro-hydro dams to support the needs for electricity in villages throughout Malaysia. Li is hopeful that DTP’s program will provide the tools for him to be able to represent the communities’ interests to the government and private corporations and help him to understand human rights and the rights of Indigenous people more thoroughly.
