Lily Chea

Forestry Rights Project Coordinator, NGO Forum on Cambodia
Cambodia
Lily currently works as the Forestry Rights Project Coordinator for the NGO Forum on Cambodia. Her duties include coordinating and collaborating with “Indigenous People and Forest Network” members, who work to mitigate the negative impacts of economic land concessions on forest dependent communities. Such work involves securing indigenous peoples’ land, and promoting alternative livelihood options and the sustainable management of natural resources. Annually, the NGO Forum, along with other organising committees, organises a National Advocacy Conference, which focuses on good governance on land and natural resources. This conference provides an opportunity for representatives of indigenous and forest dependent communities to raise their concerns to speakers from line ministers, who then provide recommendations. Through this training program, Lily hopes to gain confidence in engaging with private businesses and the government. She intends to integrate such knowledge into her current advocacy work, in order to promote the rights of local communities and thus minimise the detrimental social, environmental impacts of major development projects.
