Fiji
Lusia Lagivelu works in CCF, an NGO concerned with human rights compliance in domestic policy. In her role as Policy and Research Officer, Luisa conducts legal research in good governance, human rights and citizenship. Further, Lusia is involved in drafting the organisation’s submissions for Parliamentary Standing Committees on human rights issues in Fiji. The organisation’s primary policy recommendation is to improve access to the law/justice via simplifying legalese and educating Fijians to ensure genuine engagement with communities. Luisa is also responsible for the organisation of the upcoming Democratic Accountability Forum the organisation plans to host this year to increase public awareness and knowledge. Lusia hopes to expand her knowledge on best practices for human rights advocacy through this training. , Ms Lagilevu is a policy and research officer at CCF, a non-government organisation focusing on community education on Fiji’s constitution, human rights and multiculturalism. As part of her duties, she helps to coordinate a moot competition among various law schools in Fiji. The moot encourages students to reflect upon a fictitious human rights abuse allegation, scenarios that the Fiji Human Rights Against Discrimination Commission (FHRADC) commonly encounter. She is also involved with a publication of the FHRADC, monitoring the extent and effectiveness of the Committee’s work. Through this workshop, she hopes to learn about remedies to breaches of human rights in the workplace, so that CCF can better educate others about human rights issues in the private sector.
