DTP - BUILDING THE CAPACITY OF ASIA-PACIFIC HUMAN RIGHTS MOVEMENTS 1990 - 2021

Welcome to this issue of DTP’s eNews. We acknowledge with sadness the death of filmmaker Max Stahl. DTP’s work is inspired by the Timorese struggle for self-determination and Max Stahl made a unique and inspirational contribution to that struggle. He bravely filmed the massacre of Timorese civilians at the Santa Cruz in November 1991. In broadcasting the massacre on TV, he enabled the world to bear witness to the brutality of the occupation and the Indonesian military. This galvanised action from the UN and a new level of international solidarity. Max’s example has inspired others to act and film for human rights, and to understand the power of images and storytelling. He taught on a number of DTP’s courses in Timor-Leste. DTP’s Founder and Patron Jose Ramos-Horta narrates this video tribute to Max Stahl. A written tribute is here at CHART. DTP expresses its condolences to his family.

In this issue of the eNews we share news of and from DTP alumni and partners, of DTP programs, and of useful resources for human rights work.
