Eko is currently the National Coordinator of Indonesia Solidarity (IS), a human rights group based in Sydney, Australia. Indonesia Solidarity seeks to bring attention in Australia to the human rights issues in Indonesia, particularly in trouble afflicted areas such as Aceh where thousands have been killed and human rights violations including torture, rape, and political killings have been widespread. This work involves liaising with NGO’s, politicians, academics, unions and the media to raise awareness and generate action. He has been in this position since May 2003.
Eko was elected as the Director of an NGO in Surabaya, East Java in the 1990’s and has practical experience working with human rights workers in Indonesia with whom he is in daily contact. Through his wide network of contacts in Australia and Indonesia, Eko is able to act as a bridge between Indonesian civil society movements and their Australian counterparts.
In 2010, he earned a Master’s in Social Development with a specialisation in International Social Development from the University of New South Wales. He participated in DTP’s 16th Annual Program in East Timor in 2006.
