Imelda Tubeo

Philippines
Imelda is currently teaching political science, public administration, psychology and other behavioural subjects at Bukidnon State College in the Philippines. She also works as a counsellor here, and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Filipino NGO, the Partnership for Human Rights and Development. She is the Chair of the research committee here, and is engaged in the formulation of policy and amendments of this through consultation with staff, partners, Indigenous people and gender advocates. Imelda is a law graduate and assists in the preparation of legal documents in a para legal clinic that she runs. These deal particularly with the issues of violence against women and children. She further facilitates workshops on the same issues, as well as leadership training courses for both women and youth. As an advocate for the Indigenous people of Bukidnon, she advocates for ancestral domain land claims via radio and print media, and speaks at conferences when she is invited. Imelda wishes to participate in the training offered by DTP as she believes it will enrich her capacity at PAHRD in terms of fulfilling the organisations vision, mission and objectives. She particularly wants to use the training to help her fight for her people’s ancestral domain, to protect Indigenous rights and to facilitate activities within her college, NGO and para-legal clinic that will sustain development as well as to eliminate poverty and the deprivation of basic human rights.
