Lynette Baratai-Pokas

Employee, Center for Environmental Law and Community Rights (CELCOR Inc.)
Papua New Guinea
Lynette is currently employed as a lawyer with CELCOR, in the Direct Legal Services program. This allows her to work directly with Indigenous landowning communities, whose land rights are infringed upon by activities such as logging, mining and other large scale resource development projects. Lynette conducts paralegal trainings, provides legal advice and assistance to other NGO’s within Papua New Guinea, and assists the advocacy coordinator of her organisation on advocacy and lobbying work relevant to her cause. Lynnette sees the DTP training as an opportunity to develop her capacity building skills within the area of Indigenous Human Rights, and hopes to use this to expand the scope of her work beyond Papua New Guinea and the Melanesian region.
