Fazlur Rahman works as a Research Specialist at local governance programme SHARIQUE; he maintains the research liaison between SHARIQUE Project Implementation Unit (PIU) and BIGD. One of his many roles includes monitoring and keeping record on the researches that are being conducted in BIGD for SHARIQUE. He is also assisting SHARIQUE programme on application of the results emerged from conducted researches in BIGD and other stakeholders in the area of local governance in Bangladesh. In SHARIQUE they promote the rights of the citizens and this includes migration workers and migrant communities. Remittance received from the international migrant workers is the second largest source of foreign exchange after the garment industry in Bangladesh. The remittance of migrant workers is primarily used for household consumption of their family members that were left behind. In addition, migrant workers contribute in the social sectors of their origin by donating money for setting up schools, mosques, tube wells etc. These initiatives of migrants workers in their origin help overall local development by improving lives and livelihoods of their community especially poor and disadvantaged people. Fazlur would like to participate in the DTP program to help facilitate justice and human rights laws to the migrant workers that help build the Bangladeshi society.
