Alexandra’s current campaign supports frontline human rights and environmental land defenders. While these defenders are unjustly detained in jail or facing limited movement Alexandra helps mobilize support from allied individuals and organisations. Working in issues of climate change, Alexandra interviewed survivors of 2015 Typhoon Haiyan and published a fact finding report. Alexandra has helped study the roots of the armed conflict in the Philippines during the GRP-NDFP peace talks under the Duterte administration by interviewing marginalized sectors including farmers, workers, fisherfolks and indigenous peoples and creating primers, publications and art to amplify these sectors’ struggle for lasting peace, sovereignty and self-determination. Alexandra hopes this program will help build legitimacy and access to core funding for their organisation. Alexandra also wants to ground their doubts, anxiety and fears in practical knowledge about international human rights laws and principles, rooted in the experiences of fellow human rights defenders. Alexandra would like to be able to exchange experiences, lessons and best practices in grassroots advocacy with fellow HRDs to help cultivate a communal space to build international solidarity and build a broader network of advocates and human rights defenders.
DTP acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we work, the Bedegal people of the Eora Nation. We recognise their lands were never ceded, and we acknowledge their struggles for recognition and rights and pay our respects to the Elders – past, present – and the youth who are working towards a brighter tomorrow. This continent always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples should be aware that this website contains images or names of people who have passed away.
