Alma Cyd Mir

Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (BIITE)
Australia
Alma is the Policy and Quality Officer for BIITE. This requires her to assist the Senior Policy Analyst in the provision of specialist strategic and policy advice to the Director, Executive and Council on matters relating to the Institute’s development as a quality higher education and training institution. Alma has been a strong union advocate for the majority of her life, and is currently in her second term as the Branch President of the Batchelor Branch. She has just been elected as the Secretary for the Northern Territory Division of the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU). Alma finds her work at the Batchelor Institute immensely rewarding as she is able to empower Indigenous Australians similar to herself, and she wishes to attend the training to become even more qualified to do this. She is currently completing a Bachelor of Governance at CDU, and is majoring in law and politics. She therefore believes the training will be useful to both her studies and her current work as both a policy officer and union delegate – as she drafts responses to Commonwealth government submissions, and is currently involved in a forum dealing with Australia’s free trade agreement with the USA.
