Aman is a lawyer and works with any person, persons or communities who have human rights issues or who have suffered from human rights violations or may be under threat. Marked as an outspoken critic against the regime in Fiji in August 2022 sought temporary asylum in Australia. Aman has represented people from all communities, mostly pro bono. As a Human Rights Lawyer, he defends people within the criminal justice system in criminal cases and trials where there are breaches of human rights. He has also focused on state sponsored human rights violations carried out by the military, police and prisons including torture and brutality against citizens and prisoners. He has exposed extra judicial killings and deaths of people while in custody. Aman’s next objective is to make inroads into exposing human rights violence in the Asia Pacific region and he hopes that this program will assist in enhancing his skills, knowledge and capacity when working for Indigenous peoples, vulnerable peoples and victims of human rights violations.
DTP acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we work, the Bedegal people of the Eora Nation. We recognise their lands were never ceded, and we acknowledge their struggles for recognition and rights and pay our respects to the Elders – past, present – and the youth who are working towards a brighter tomorrow. This continent always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples should be aware that this website contains images or names of people who have passed away.
