Arosh Hapurarachchi

Technical Advisor, Sri Lanka Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme
Sri Lanka
Arosh is the Project Manager for Advocacy for the Post Tsunami Recovery programme. The main emphasis of his job is to protect the rights of the tsunami affected communities in Sri Lanka. To this end he is involved with lobbying the bodies responsible for the implementation of Tsunami rebuilding programs to ensure that they consider the right of the communities involved, particularly the poor and the sustainability of the projects. He also works to influence the governments of South Asian countries to implement disaster sensitive development plans and policies. Arosh would like to focus future advocacy efforts on multi-national corporations in an effort to ensure that their projects associated with development incorporate human rights objectives. To this end he is interested in learning more about the UN Global compact, the OECD guidelines and the UN draft Norms on Business and Human Rights.
