Outreach Officer, Pravasi Nepali Coordination Committee (PNCC)
Nepal, Qatar
Mr. Lama from Nepal lives and works in Qatar as an Outreach Officer for Pravasi Nepali Coordination Committee (PNCC) to assist and facilitate distressed Nepalese migrant workers. He has been there for 4 years. He works closely with the mission, social activists, communities and human rights institute to address the problems of stranded migrant workers in distress. PNCC is an organization, not for profit, registered under the government of Nepal and formed by returnee migrant workers, especially from gulf countries. It was established in 2009 with the help of Pravasi Nepali Sewa Samiti (PNSS) which was registered to the Embassy of Nepal in Saudi Araba in 1998. The main objectives of PNSS were to rescue migrant workers in difficulties in Saudi Arabia. After few years, many gulf returnee migrant workers felt that the need of an organization to work for the betterment of the migrant workers in Nepal and thus PNCC was formed. It has head office in Kathmandu and receives migration related cases from partner organizations and individuals. Also, PNCC provides information before, during and after the migration. It has deployed representative to Qatar and Malaysia since 2012 to support workers in difficulties and follows up the cases that central office receives. He believes the upcoming DTP Workshop will be a great opportunity to meet with stakeholders and hear their voices in favour of workers, and looks forward to sharing the knowledge amongst other participants from the MENA region.
