Azmir Hossin

ActionAid Bangladesh
Bangladesh
Azmir has been working with ActionAid Bangladesh since 2002. He is currently employed as the Associate Coordinator under the Rights and Social Justice Sector, Diversity and Citizenship theme. Azmir works with Indigenous peoples living in Bangladesh as well as Indigenous organisations. His role within ActionAid is to implement community development projects to promote the rights of Indigenous people within Bangladesh, as well increase their access to basic services. Azmir is also involved with the Indigenous People’s Forum, an organisation that gives Indigenous people within Bangladesh a common platform from which to advocate for their rights. He is also working with Indigenous people’s youth associations in order to promote Indigenous youth leadership. Azmir prides himself on listening, communicating and understanding the communities he works with as they search for solutions to the various problems they face. He enjoys working as part of a team and improving the capacity of various marginalised groups within his society. Azmir completed an International Masters of Science in Social Work in 2001 and has previously attended training sessions on Development Facilitation Skills and Development Management. Azmir’s primary goal is to improve the plight of Indigenous peoples within Bangladesh and he wishes to attend DTP’s Indigenous training in order to achieve this. He believes that in order to work more efficiently he needs more skills and appropriate training and education in relation to the United Nations and other inter-governmental systems and mechanisms. He hopes the training will heighten the capacity of ActionAid Bangladesh, whose strategic objective is “to assert equal citizenship by those of diverse origin based on ethnicity, language and religion”.
