Beema Basheer

Program Coordinator, Centre for Indian Migrant Studies (CIMS)
India
The Centre for Indian Migrant Studies undertakes a range of projects focussed on addressing issues affecting migrants. This includes locating missing migrants abroad through the medium of television and social media, creating awareness and evidence based advocacy campaigns for safe migration and supporting migrants to access justice. CIMS initiated a new project along with financial assistance from the state government to support the entrepreneurial ventures of returnee women domestic migrant workers who had worked and struggled in their destination countries. Beema’s role includes handling administrative tasks, assisting with planning and coordination of programs and office activities, preparing scripts and documentation for a television show on missing migrants, and updating the website and other social media. This training program will give her a general understanding of international human rights mechanisms and standards, guide her work in migrant rights advocacy and enable her to push for a better human rights agenda.
