Cherie Buchert

Cherie is an Indigenous Mediator with the Community Justice Centre NSW. As an Indigenous Australian woman, Cherie mediates non-Indigenous and Indigenous disputes using the mainstream model for mediation of the CJC. She has recently helped train 20 new Indigenous mediators for the Sydney metropolitan area and believes that she can make a difference by helping Indigenous Australian’s realize both self empowerment and self determination. Cherie believes that the training will provide a great opportunity to see how Indigenous communities in other parts of the Asia-Pacific region deal with human rights issues. She would also like to broaden her own knowledge of human rights so that she can promote awareness within her own community and combat injustices to Indigenous peoples.
