Daniel Kaima

Employee, Center for Environmental Law and Community Rights (CELCOR Inc.)
Papua New Guinea
As a lawyer for the Centre for Environmental Law and Community Rights, Daniel acts as an advocate for the community in regard to the actions of multinational corporations, especially in the area of resource exploitation. His work involves reviewing existing law and practice for environmental protection and conservation in PNG as well as providing training and education to the community on development, human rights and environmental issues. He is particularly concerned with the abuse of human rights, damage to the environment, indiscriminate labour practices and corruption within his country. Dealing on a daily basis with the actions of multinational corporations Daniel believes that the DTP course will better equip him to confront these international corporations and encourage them to show prudence in their business operations. A better understanding of global human rights instruments used in conjunction with the national laws would help Daniel, through CELCOR, limit the exploitation of the environment and the people of PNG.
