Desti Murdijana

Executive Director, Yayasan PIKUL/ OXFAM Community Aid Abroad – Indonesia Field Office
Indonesia
Ms Murdijana is 39 years of age and lives in Kupang, NTT, Indonesia, and has completed training in UN mechanisms on human rights and ‘sexuality, culture and community’. She is currently a Program Manager for Health and Human Rights, where she provides technical assistance on women’s health and human rights issues to NGOs and Indigenous women’s groups mainly in NTT and West Papua, and works towards building capacity in management, strategic planning and program development. In addition, Ms Murdijana provides support for the Eastern Indonesia Women’s Health Network, and holds responsibility for PIKUL’s annual women’s health and human rights strategy. She has also been supervising the work of the West Timor Humanitarian Team working on the investigation, documentation and services for women who have been victims of violence in the East Timor Refugee Camps in West Timor. Ms Murdijana’s work demands that she learns more about human rights standards and instruments. She is particularly concerned about the rights of women, and how the perspective of women’s rights has not been evident in many investigations and the resulting documentation. Ms Murdijana thus wishes to deepen her knowledge and skills in the human rights field, largely relating to women’s rights and the investigation and documentation of violations, and how to use this as a tool for advocacy.
