Knowing several people from different countries and about their works was a memorable aspect of the DTP program

Dr.Hakro has participated in DTP’s 12th Annual Regional Human Rights and Peoples’ Diplomacy Training Program in Sri Lanka in 2002. Dr Hakro was affiliated with Amnesty International Pakistan and represented Amnesty International Pakistan at international meetings in Europe and the Asia Pacific.

Now Dr Hakro is a Professor of Economics and Assistant Dean at Middle East College – Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. He holds a PhD in Economics and has also been a faculty member at the Sindh Development Studies Centre (SDSC)-University of Sindh in Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad, University of Glasgow in UK, and University of Nizwa in Oman. He was a consultant economist for UNDP, FAO, ADB, and other international organisations. He was also an advisor to Minister for Planning and Development for the State of Kuwait.

Dr.Hakro has found the DTP program to be incredibly influential and beneficial to his work in Pakistan and in the Gulf. The knowledge gained about the UN instruments in international law and building solidarity useful and interesting.

He also views the DTP as an important program for grassroots movements as it is a gateway towards a better, more thorough understanding of human rights, international and intergovernmental institutions.  The ability of the program to bring in people with similar interests from different countries allowed the participants to gain a better knowledge, skills and lessons learned through experience.

Being a faculty member with several universities, it helped to make sense of the UN mechanisms and processes as well as other platforms that address and improve human rights

Dr Hakro collaborates with students, other faculty members, researchers, and together they share the common interest and goal in improving the development, social and economic rights on both national and international level.

He sees the DTP program as an excellent tool in building solidarity and sharing stories.
