Emdadul Haque is an Assistant Professor of Law at Daffodil International University in Bangladesh. He also works as an independent human rights researcher and freelance journalist in Dhaka, the capital city. Emdad holds a special interest in migrant workers’ rights and refugee rights.
“My interests in migrant rights advocacy have been galvanized due to my elder brother who worked as a migrant worker in Malaysia, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia for a few years and faced deprivation of rights.”
Emdad holds high opinion about DTP training:
“To tell you the truth, DTP provided me with the best training experience. I have had the privilege of participating in training programs provided by numerous international and national organizations and institutions but the DTP training has left a special impression on me because of the diversity of DTP trainers, spontaneity of participants, and durability of the program. I still remember what I learnt from DTP, and its charismatic trainers including now deceased John Bingham (RIP), Patrick Earle, Shahidul Alam, Professor C R Abrar, Joshua Cooper, and William Gois. I was also able to make some new friends who are very helpful and I am still in touch with some of them.”
Emdad says that he learnt many issues from DTP training including the cross-cutting nature of human rights, implementation of rights mechanism, compliance issues and better as well as worst practices along with healing mechanism and techniques.
Emdad added that he will not forget the concept of the human rights hamburger shared by Patrick Earle during the DTP training session. As a legal academic Emdad now encourages his students to be more rights focused.
He also writes on the human rights inconsistencies and incompliance issues focusing South Asian countries and beyond. Some of Emdad’s research works, writings, and publications are available in his Muck Rack profile and also ORCID profile.
“I share my DTP experience and knowledge to students, academic and nonacademic colleagues. Many of my students and academic colleagues are now very eager to join similar DTP programs either at home or abroad.”
Emdad wishes to be a prominent legal academic and independent human rights researcher and impactful human rights advocate/attorney specialising in migrant rights for the underrepresented South Asian nations including Bangladesh.
DTP acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we work, the Bedegal people of the Eora Nation. We recognise their lands were never ceded, and we acknowledge their struggles for recognition and rights and pay our respects to the Elders – past, present – and the youth who are working towards a brighter tomorrow. This continent always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
