Ivonia works as a legal assistant at the FOKER LSM Papua organisation in Papua, Indonesia. Operating since 1992, FOKER is an umbrella organisation with over 100 participating non-governmental organizations. FOKER serves as a forum representing local organisations spread over the province and acts as a facilitator to encourage the effective development of non-governmental organisations. FOKER works to promote the interests of the disadvantaged indigenous communities of Papua. FOKER’s activities include consultation and dialogue between NGOs, facilitating and utilizing research, supporting NGOs created with the aim of responding to issues relevant to the Papuan context through dialogue and consultation and training for capacity building and management of organisations. In her role as legal assistant, Ivonia assists lawyers in the handling of cases and in litigation. She aims to improve her own knowledge about effective advocacy techniques and also share her knowledge among Papuan NGOs, in order to strengthen institutional capacities for the fight for human rights.
