Jeyaseelen has his own private law practice working on the areas of industrial relations and employment law, human rights law and criminal law. He has been counsel on several cases against government bodies, local authorities, police and large corporations. He is currently working as legal counsel for a number of large trade unions in employment related disputes. In his work as a committee member of ERA consumer Jeyaseelen has been involved with human rights research and training most notably he was responsible for preparing the ‘Street Law Manual’ which is a manual used by human rights trainers to empower and educate rural communities on their basic rights. Jeyaseelen is also the legal advisor and deputy president of the National Consumer Complaints Centre. Through this NGO Jeyaseelen is involved with handling public complaints and lobbying for new laws which affect consumers. He would hope to use the information and knowledge gathered at the DTP training to draft codes of conduct for corporations in Malaysia and to provide advice to the government in their consideration of the UN draft Norms on Business and Human Rights and other business guidelines.
