Goolarri Media Enterprises Pty Ltd.
Australia
Kaylene is employed as a part-time production assistant in GTV35 – which is the television and production arm of Goolarri Media Enterprises. Her organisation is committed to empowering Indigenous groups through positive media representations; challenging stereotypes and informing and entertaining both Indigenous and non-Indigenous audiences. To do this Kaylene conducts research, administrative tasks, and assists both clients and producers. Before working for Goolarri, Kaylene was employed at the Indigenous Education Branch at the Victorian office of the Commonwealth Department of Education, Science and Training. She has also worked extensively at the Gunditjmara Aboriginal Cooperative in Warnambool, Victoria. Kaylene is currently studying towards a Bachelor of Laws, and her primary interests within this include Intellectual property rights, Human interest law and Indigenous media. Kaylene believes that by participating in the training she will be able to realise the full potential of the Indigenous media and the role it plays in human rights issues. She is particularly interested in gaining a greater understanding of UN human rights mechanisms, as well as the relationship between the media and human rights issues, and wishes to relay all that she learns to her fellow students at the Institute of Koori Education (IKE).
