Laura Afonso de Jesus

Laura works as a legal officer for AlFeLa, an organisation that provides legal assistance for women and children. She handles domestic violence cases that involves sexual violence, sexual abuse of children and child abuise. She provides advice and explanations on the legal system to her clients. She facilitates training for community leaders and senior high school students on the Timor-Leste Constitution, domestic violence laws, the Penal Code, victim’s rights and the child’s right to protection. From the DTP program, Laura wants to enhance her advocacy skills to provide better advices to her clients. She wants to explore different human rights issues and learn from the success stories so that she can pass on this knowledge to the victims and help them to assert their rights.
