Laura is the Corporate Accountability Advisor at Cividep. Cividep aims to create awareness about working conditions and labour rights standards in the garment and electronics industry on both national and global level. In its garment sector projects, Cividep works closely with the Garment Textiles Workers’ Union as well as community based women organization, ‘Munnade’. As part of international networks such as the Goodelectronics network and OECD Watch as well as with partner organizations such as SOMO, Oxfam and Action Aid, Cividep disseminates information about working conditions and puts pressure on international brands to monitor their suppliers. At Cividep, Laura conducts consultations with Indian civil society organisations on the United Nations ‘Protect, Respect and Remedy Framework’, works on the case study on the human rights and environmental impact of POSCO’s steel plant in Orissa, coordinates a research project on contract labour, freedom of association, workplace standards and Corporate Social Responsibility efforts in mobile phone manufacturing Special Economic Zones in Tamil Nadu, and conducts research on the financial inclusion and access to banking services by the rural population in Karnataka.
