Kumari is an online media journalist, human rights defender, and co-editor of a popular city based news web site in Sri Lanka, www.meepura.com She is also an editorial board member of provincial web sites that run Meepura publications and CPD. The Meepura website promotes community advocacy in various ways through as well as providing training for citizen journalists on a range of important community related issues including the rights of women and children, and the rights of fisherman and journalists. Kumari plays the key role of conducting training and holding discussions with communities over their issues of concern, and writing and editing stories. She believes that in developing her knowledge of human rights and people’s diplomacy she will be able to further develop issue oriented campaigns and develop effective advocacy programs, and that this knowledge will be highly beneficial for her organisation.
