Malika Amerasekera-Madduma

Oxfam Great Britain – Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka
Malika is a Program Manager in the Sri Lanka field office of Oxfam Community Aid Abroad Australia (OCAA). Before moving into the development field he was a cicil lawyer engaged in different types of litigitation including fundamental rights cases in Sri Lanka. Since working in the development field he has coordinated a number of important projects in the ‘Judicial Reforms Project’ and the ‘Legal Aid for Poor Women’ projects. Both projects required working closely with the Sri Lankan Attorney General’s Department, the Judicial Services Commission, and the Bar Association of Sri Lanka. At OCAA he is the coordinator of the human rights program. While Malika has a strong background in law, he would like to attend the training to strengthen his lobbying and advocacy skills so that he may be more effectively in carrying out OCAA’s Human Rights Program. He hopes to use the knowledge and skills he gains to expand OCAA (Sri Lanka’s) human rights program, conduct human rights training for OCAA partners and help update its human rights manuals and newsletters by incorporating more regional and international human rights mechanisms and approaches.
