Mohamed Munas Mohamed Alavi [M] works as a senior researcher for the Centre for Poverty Analysis (CEPA) in Colombo. Munas leads the migration research thematic area at CEPA. His research interests include data collection on migrant flows, the Sri Lankan diaspora since 2009, and the gender and skills profile of Sri Lankan labour migrants. He is currently working on an exploratory research project to understand the motivations of boat migration from Sri Lanka to Australia. In 2013 he participated in an Orientation Course on ‘Research Methodology in Forced Migration Studies’ – a two and half month distance learning course followed by eight-day workshop conducted by Calcutta Research Group, India.
