Tharindu’s work for CSR involves conducting research, interviewing victims, preparing reports based on human rights issues, conducting awareness programs on the Right to Information Act and its practical usage, and drafting reports, articles, and complaints related to human rights violations. This includes a published report on incidents occurring since March 2022 related to state suppression in Sri Lanka. His work with MediaLK.com includes publishing investigative stories, and stories human rights issues, and social issues. At the Young Young Journalists’ Association of Sri Lanka, he is instrumental in drafting formal complaints of human rights violations to the hotline of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka and following up by meeting victims and gathering evidence related to the violation, and coordinating with pro bono lawyers. Tharindu believes that this training program will give him the knowledge of international human rights law and principles required for him to successfully handle human rights cases in local forums such as with the police and Human Rights Commission. Learning how to engage with UN human rights mechanisms and UN systems will also be valuable to his research work with the CSR, and his work as a journalist and human rights activist.

We recognise their lands were never ceded, and we acknowledge their struggles for recognition and rights and pay our respects to the Elders – past, present – and the youth who are working towards a brighter tomorrow.
