On 3-4 November, 2022, 15 participants came together from across Australia for an intensive training program on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The 2-day program enabled government officials and NGOs to build their knowledge and understanding of the CRC and its principles - including the influential interpretations of the UN Committee on the Rights of Child (the Committee) - and relate the CRC to relevant policy and practice in Australia.
Participants came from Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia, Tasmania and the ACT. The participants represented state and territory government, NGOs and community organisations working/advocating with and for children.
The workshop was led by international child right’s expert, Professor John Tobin (Melbourne Law School) and James McDougall (Child Rights Taskforce), with a presentation by Liana Buchanan – Principal Commissioner for Children and Young People, Victoria.
There was a keen interest in having more workshops on CRC. The next workshop will be held in Sydney on 6-7 December. Click here for more information. Planning is currently underway for a series of workshops around Australia in 2023.
Please contact Clare Sidoti at [email protected] to register your interest in this workshop.
DTP acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we work, the Bedegal people of the Eora Nation. We recognise their lands were never ceded, and we acknowledge their struggles for recognition and rights and pay our respects to the Elders – past, present – and the youth who are working towards a brighter tomorrow. This continent always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
