Business, Human Rights, the SDGs and the Climate Emergency in the Pacific was the focus of this online human rights capacity building program. As COVID-19 continues to have devastating economic impacts upon island nations in the Pacific, there is a key focus upon inclusive development and ‘building back better’ in the region so affected by the climate emergency. The course emphasised the role of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights in helping Pacific governments, their development partners, business and civil society to build back better. Similarly, the course drew upon the frameworks of the SDGs and the mandates of the Paris Agreement to provide stakeholders with guidance. The course was part of a wider sub-regional strategy of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights and continues a collaboration between DTP, OHCHR, PIANGO, BHRRC and CCF.
The program was delivered online over a period of 4 weeks (2 sessions per week) in August 2021.

DTP acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we work, the Bedegal people of the Eora Nation. We recognise their lands were never ceded, and we acknowledge their struggles for recognition and rights and pay our respects to the Elders – past, present – and the youth who are working towards a brighter tomorrow. This continent always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
