Alex Newton is a human rights lawyer with extensive experience spanning the corporate sector, government and consulting. For the past decade, Alex’s work has focused on the area of business and human rights, including managing human rights investigations in global corporate supply chains and, previously, running her own consulting business. In 2025, she was a Fellow at the Human Technology Institute at the University of Technology Sydney working on issues relating to human rights, responsible technology and artificial intelligence.
In 2017, she was appointed by Australia’s Treasurer to conduct an Independent Review of Australia’s National Contact Point under the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. Previously, she served in the UN Secretary General’s Strategic Planning Unit in New York and with Australia’s Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. She is the author of The Business of Human Rights, published by Taylor and Francis (UK) in 2019.
