Amelia Latu

Amelia supervises all the activities of the Tonga National Youth Congress. Two recent programs she has been involved in concerned voters’ education and youth outreach. In the first program, the Eua Branch partnered with a local organization to run voters’ education training for youth 21+ educating them on the importance of exercising their right to vote. The second program is a youth outreach program with partner stakeholders that aims to increase knowledge and understanding within the youth community about their rights and how to utilise them. An issue that has emerged recently in Tonga is commercial forestry, including its impact on water and access to safe water for drinking. Amelia believes that the training will equip her and her organisation with the skills to educate Tongan youth about human rights. She hopes to apply these skills and experiences to her work to disseminate through their community youth outreach and talanoa session to their community youth. The networking and sharing ideas with other agencies over the course of the training will also be of benefit.
