Cressida Kuala

Chair-Lady (Founder and CEO), Porgera Red Wara (River) Women’s Association Incorporated
Papua New Guinea
Cressida is an Ipili-Porgera woman, the founder and CEO of the PRWWA and a civil servant who defends human rights, women’s rights and environmental rights. Arising from her own experiences, she spent 3 years researching human rights issues at the Porgera mine dump sites. Her efforts with other survivors of violence received global prominence with “The voice of Porgera women in mining today” as they campaigned for justice and remedy. In 2018, Cressida spoke at various international forums on business and human rights. Her work tackles issues of sexual violence (rape/ gang rape) perpetrated by mine employees, security and police officers in PNG. Cressida would like to improve her understanding of human rights principles, laws, and mechanisms and how to create tools for human rights advocacy at the local level. She also wants her organization to benefit from this course, to develop awareness campaign plans that make every person realize their individual right to live free from violence.
