Faisal is actively involved in human rights promotion not only through his association with Research for Social Advancement (REFSA) but also with The Coalition for Free and Fair Election (BERSIH) as a fulltime member of the secretariat. Faisal is also a freelance journalist and writes on human rights issues pertaining to the violation of rights of minorities in Malaysia. In addition, he is the General Secretary for the Academic Staff of Private College Union (KAPTS). Previously, Faisal has worked with the environment group Wetlands International Asia-Pacific where he conducted research and awareness programs on the Semelais, an indigenous group living in the wetlands forest area in Pahang, Malaysia. Faisal also has a Masters in Business Administration.
