The human rights issues Joanita’s organization focuses on is the community who are subordinated to the system of capitalism. In view of this oppressive system, the FERA has the initiative to join women who are trained in social injustice. Joanita’s advocacy has been related to social issues such as social cohesion advocacy for rural communities and young people and adolescents, gender equality, women’s rights, children’s rights, the right to the environment, types of violence that remain practical in families and crimes that violate human dignity. Joanita is interested in participating in this program because she wants to learn more about human rights in relation to her field of study and how to implement it for positive change. She wants to connect with people from other countries to learn experiences. She hopes her participation in discussions and listening will help develop an understanding of how to advocate for the foundation of human rights in everyday life.
DTP acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we work, the Bedegal people of the Eora Nation. We recognise their lands were never ceded, and we acknowledge their struggles for recognition and rights and pay our respects to the Elders – past, present – and the youth who are working towards a brighter tomorrow. This continent always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
