DTP alumni Sabela Gayo (Aceh) and Yotam Wakum (Papua) visited the DTP offices on 31st January to share about their current work in Indonesia which is focused on alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and mediation as a way of providing access to justice and conflict prevention and resolution.
Sabela is President of the Indonesia Dispute Board (IDB) and he and Yotam shared about their work in training and developing a network of over 3500 mediators in Indonesia. It was the first visit of both to Australia, part of their strategy to share good practices, build international linkages and partnerships.
The discussion with DTP included the relationship between human rights and ADR, and DTP’s role in linking alumni and providing specialised human rights training.
DTP acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we work, the Bedegal people of the Eora Nation. We recognise their lands were never ceded, and we acknowledge their struggles for recognition and rights and pay our respects to the Elders – past, present – and the youth who are working towards a brighter tomorrow. This continent always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
