Regenerative Human Rights, Climate Resilience & Sustainable Development Goals: Pacific Priorities from UNGA79 to UNFCCC COP29

The Pacific has been at the forefront of using a human rights-based approach and its mechanisms to address the challenges of climate change for the region. As advocates prepare for the General Assembly and COP29 in Azerbaijan, DTP was joined by trainer Joshua Cooper for a Brown Bag lunch discussion on Tuesday 17 September.

During the 90 minute discussion with staff from DTP, UNSW and affiliated law centres, Joshua shared the current climate issues and advocacy in Oceania. He reflected on the recent Pacific Islands Forum and Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture, with the discussion covering the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, deep sea mining challenges, and the Global Plastics Treaty.

Joshua shared how the opportunities presented to Pacific advocates from these gatherings will contribute to the Pacific priorities being raised in each of the upcoming forums.
