Cathy Bolinga

New Zealand, Papua New Guinea
Cathy works as an advocacy officer for Caritas in Papua New Guinea dealing with a range of human rights and social justice issues including those affecting women and children, environmental justice and good governance. She is motivated to address the human rights issues that are emerging with the exploitation of natural resources in her country. The knowledge and experience that Cathy gains from the program will be used to develop strategies to advocate for greater recognition of human rights in natural resource development and strengthen the ability of Caritas in PNG to defend the rights of the community against large corporations. Furthermore, Cathy hopes to learn approaches to combat the bribery and corruption in business so that standards may be applied uniformly and more adequately enforced.
