Ms Espana is 40 years old and lives in Davao City, the Philippines. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Agricultural Technology and has had training in development and sustainable agriculture, as well as para-legal training. Ms Espana is currently a Program Co-ordinator for Panagtagbo-Mindinao or Mindinao Indigenous Peoples’ Consultative Council. She has also worked for the Asian Rural Institute in Japan, and for a variety of community development programs. As Program Co-ordinator for Panagtagbo-Mindinao, she is involved in advocacy for issues affecting the existence of Indigenous Peoples, negotiation and lobbying for policies concerning Indigenous Peoples, and training.
Ms Espana believes that the training will expand and deepen her understanding of working for the less fortunate people of her society. She hopes that the training will provide her with the opportunity to establish networks with other organisations and individuals who are sympathetic to the cause of Panagtagbo-Mindinao.
