2026 Business and Human Rights in Asia – Capacity Building Strategy

Bangkok, Thailand

14 - 18 September 2026

Applications close Friday, August 21, 2026

In September 2026, DTP will host a Business and Human Rights (BHR) capacity-building program / workshop with its partners FORUM -ASIA, Migrant Forum in Asia (MFA) and Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP).  The program will be held in Bangkok, Thailand to coincide with the UN’s Regional Forum on Business and Human Rights.

Business impacts on human rights are accelerating.  The growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI), growing inequality, competition for investment, large-scale infrastructure projects, extractive industries, and digital and energy transitions have intensified business-related human rights risks.  The climate crisis and responses to it are increasing those risks. Corruption distorts democracy and good governance.

Civic space is shrinking. Communities, workers, and human rights defenders are increasingly on the frontlines of corporate harm. Accountability and access to remedy remain limited.  The voice and interests of business have become increasingly influential in societies and in governance.  Asia lags other regions in engagement with international BHR standards.

DTP has been building capacity on BHR in Asia-Pacific since 2003. The need for capacity building  on BHR continues, but needs, opportunities and priorities are changing.

About the Workshop

DTP’s Capacity Building on BHR in Asia program aims to strengthen the capacity, resilience, and cross-border solidarity of civil society, human rights defenders, and impacted communities.  This workshop will combine knowledge sharing and skills building.  It aims to bring together representatives of different movements interested in working together to advance business respect for human rights and the environment. Together we hope to shape a new regional capacity building strategy for DTP’s work on BHR from 2027-230.
