Domenica Bumma is human rights specialist working with the European External Action Service (EEAS), where she focuses on developing and coordinating Europe’s external human rights policies. In her current role, she is responsible, among other tasks, for the EU Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy, Human Rights Defenders and Transnational Repression, as well as the EU partnership with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and relations with the European Parliament on human rights matters. Domenica also created the EEAS Human Rights and Democracy Factory, a learning and development programme aiming to support EU Delegations around the world in their action in different human rights areas.
Before joining the Human Rights Team at the EEAS in September 2022, Bumma served as Head of the Political Department at the EU Delegation to Brazil for four years. She also has experience working on human rights, democracy, and governance issues across Turkey, the Middle East, and North Africa, and has engaged extensively with Civil Society and academia in all those fields.
Domenica is fluent in Italian, English, French and Spanish, has a good command of Portuguese and a fair knowledge of Turkish and Arabic.
