Fathima Jaleel

Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies
Sri Lanka
Fathima is a Program Officer for the Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies in Sri Lanka. Her position, among many responsibilities, entails preparing submissions for the National Framework on Relief, Reconstruction and Reconciliation in which Fathima analyses issues and provides recommendations for building inter-community cooperation in post civil war Sri Lanka. In addition to this, Fathima researches issues affecting women’s rights and, as a fully qualified lawyer, represents clients in Court on fundamental human rights cases. Fathima’s forthcoming participation in the DTP annual training programs evolved from a desire to strengthen her advocacy to develop practical and diplomatic skills, Fathima believes these skills to be central to the peace process in Sri Lanka and hopes her engagement in the Diplomacy Training Program will meaningfully contribute to four main aspects of her work, these include: formulating programs and implementing the suggestions made to the National Plan on Reconciliation; awareness raising and capacity building for Sri Lankan women in relation to domestic and reproductive rights; addressing the needs of the ‘disappeared person’ and their families affected by the civil war.
