Originally from Malaysia, Frederic is now based with AIPP in Chiang Mai, Thailand where he assists Indigenous Peoples from Asia engage with human rights mechanisms and processes at national, regional and international levels. He also helps maintain the Indigenous Peoples Human Rights Defenders (IPHRDs) Network website and social networking sites of the HRCPA Programme. Additionally, Frederic monitors developments and updates from the various human rights mechanisms and processes, including summarising and providing analysis and sharing the information with the IPHRD network members and programme committee members. Frederic has recently been working closely with IPHRDs, as well as Indigenous Environment Human Rights Defenders, providing technical and financial support and other forms of assistance to victims of human rights violations among IPHRDs and IWHRDs. Frederic’s work interacts with the AIPP and ASEAN mechanisms, including but not limited to coordinating activity with the Indigenous Peoples Task Force, and attending and facilitating ASEAN Members in AICHR meetings, the ASEAN Civil Society Conference / ASEAN Peoples Forum and other ASEAN-related meetings. Frederic hopes that from this training he can build and increase his own advocacy skills in order to engage with companies and governments in relation to the impact of businesses on Indigenous communities.
