Joelson is an Indigenous Pacific Island man from Port Moresby, National Capital District. As the Acting Aid Coordinator of the DNPM, Joelson is responsible for the Regional, United Nations Aid Effectiveness & Regional Branch, and the Development Cooperation and Management Division. Joelson and his organisation recently assisted customary landowners in the development of their landowner companies, including the write-up of their Constitution, Business Plans, and Company profiles. They also assisted customary landowners in an Oral History review of the ancient folklore and other materials that impinge on land matters throughout Milne Bay Province of PNG. Joelson believes that this training will significantly benefit him and his organisation, by building their capacity to establish a human rights Help-Desk to assist Customary Landowners in properly documenting human rights abuses in business practices. Joelson also sees this training as an opportunity to partner with other private business partners in his region. , Joelson’s current job includes conducting specific tasks like coordinating and facilitating negotiations between donor partners and the government, as liaising with World Bank and Asian Development Bank. He is also a nominated Male Advocate for Women’s Rights as Human Rights where his involvement in the gender equity and social inclusion program is crucial. He believes that this training will assist him and his organization in raising the profile of human rights and advocating for an evidence-based rights approach that is realistic, achievable, and strategic in implementation for the Department of National Planning & Monitoring.
