Saurlin P. Siagian is an academic, activist, and researcher. Saurlin earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Sumatra in 2001 and earned his master’s degree, majoring in Human Rights, Development and Social Justice at the ISS The Hague (2007-2008). Saurlin also draws on his activist experience and experience as a Toba Batak man. He has also been the Chair of the People’s Forest Institute since 2019. He is also a member of the North Sumatra Regional Forestry Council. In 2022 he was selected as a commissioner of the National Human rights commission for the term from 2022- 2027.

This is the first webinar in our series which introduced the EU guidelines on Human Rights Defenders and their relevance for frontline human rights defenders. It will draw directly on the experience of practitioners – from the EU and from Frontline Defenders.  It will build awareness of the content of the Guidelines and the actions they call for from EU Embassies and Diplomats – with some real examples.
