Agung Subastion is a Chairman at Serikat Buruh Migran Indonesia. In his role is responsible for overall activities and holds general policy both inside and outside the region, lead the implementation of work program within the organisations policy and aims, assess and evaluate the activities carried out by the board, and to conduct the promotion of people of Kabupaten Banyuwangi and the broad community about the importance of protection for migrant workers and their families. He also works as an advocate for migrant workers and their families, where he builds networks so that migrant workers can advocate for their protection, maintains and builds organisational learning by consulting with members, helps develop capacity in communities to create self-reliance, and promoting to communities and governments about the rights of migrant workers and their families and the migration process. Through the DTP program Agung is hoping to gain new insight into the advocacy experiences that have been conducted in other regions and organisations and using this to build on his skills. Through Agung’s experience he has developed an understanding of the role of trafficking in the issues faced by migrant workers and he sees the potential to create synergy across the Asia Pacific region in advocacy for these victims and is hoping to develop knowledge about how to improve this synergy to improve the process by which victims see perpetrators are punished.
