Billie-Jo Wesley

Australia
Billie-Jo is currently working with an Aboriginal organisation called Tangentera on a program called ‘Safe Families’ in response to the removal of Aboriginal children into foster homes where they are growing up not knowing their culture. Billie-Jo is concerned about racism, homelessness and misunderstanding and lack of knowledge of Aboriginal culture in Alice Springs. In 2012 Billie-Jo took part in a program called ‘Young Indigenous Constitution Recognition’ in Sydney. The program helped gain awareness for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to have the right to be recognised in the constitution properly. Billie-Jo was also a facilitator for a youth led program called ‘NIYLA’ which encouraged young Aboriginal people to come together and share the problems that they faced within their own communities. Billie-Jo is currently an ambassador on behalf of Alice Springs for a small organisation called ‘Recognise’.
